High-resolution FIB-SEM dataset of dense inner C-S-H of 28 days hydrated alite
This dataset contains 2 image stacks depicting 28 days hydrated alite (C3S). The volumes were created using a scanning electron microsope (SEM) in backscatter electron mode (BSE), combined with a focussed ion beam (FIB).
The SEM was a Helios G4 UX by Thermo Fisher Scientific. The software used to run the experiment and which created the project dataset is Auto Slice & View 4.1 by Thermo Fisher Scientific. The specimen was preparated within the bulk material and cut into 10 nm tick slices. Two scales were recorded at 2 kV, 10 nA. However the tilt correction (image plane is tilted 38° compared to standard orthogonal imaging) was not activated, resulting in an anisotropic voxel geometry. To correct this, the given y-scale has to be corrected by 1/sin(52°) = 1.2690. Within HR_FIB-SEM_C3S_28d.7z, the image stacks can be found in the following folders: The file "ProjectData.dat" within "HR_FIB-SEM_C3S_28d.7z" archive is a XML file and contains metadata for the whole project and each slice. Each raw TIFF within the project also contains a set of metadata created by the SEM acqiositon software at the end of the TIFF datastream. The high-resolution dataset "Images/SEM Image2/" was aligned using SIFT and segmented into C-S-H, voids and unhydrated C3S. These processed datasets are available as TIFF stacks within the archive "segmentations.7z". They can be opened correctly scaled using ImageJ.
